Apart from being a venue to a host of museums and a vast expanse of green grass where locals relax during summer, Museumplein is also the site of the Iamsterdam sign which is a great photo-op. A bit further away from other attractions, you can get a tram here from Centraal and most other places.
Pull out of the tram and go to the museuns !!! All around here can be visited, there is a large grass that you can rest or read your book. Don´t lose time, go to the museum!
Everybody waits for their turn to have a photo in between the "i'm amsterdam" letters. Some climb up, some jump through but it's all fun.
Lovely area to unwind after a busy day sight-seeing. We loved the open grass, and our 2 year old really enjoyed bombing about exploring. It's really beautiful and the I amsterdam sign is a must-see.
Although we had read the reviews, it was still a wonderful surprise to walk through the arches of the Rijksmuseum into such a beautiful space. There are a variety of open spaces, shops, bars and restaurants and none of them felt like a "rip off". A really pleasant space to spend the day.
Great place to take some pictures. It is at the end of museumplein and very close to van gogh museum and the national museum. During weekends there the space next to the sign is a market (or at least it was when we were there). Tip 1: Get there early so there is less crowded. in the weekends before 8-9 and during workdays 9-10. Tip 2: To get there yo can take 2 or 5 from he central station and get off at "rijksmuseum". Or if you are coming from the eat of the city number 1 to Hoygedstraat and sw
You could spend an entire vacation with all the museums surrounding Museumplein. The Museumplein itself is a nice greenspace with some modern sculpture and a reflecting pool. Two of the best museums are here - Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh. Places to eat in the plaza and nearby, plenty of tram access. What's not to like?
This is essentially a very large, open area with a lawned area that links the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Bols, Concertbouw, Stedelijk and Diamant Musuem. There are three candy like scuplures in water, which is shallow enough to paddle in. We saw lot of people dipping there toes in here to cool there feet (which you will need to do after Rijksmuseum, that place is HUGE). There is a Albert Heijn supermarket near Stedelijk if you wanted to have mini picnic here, which is great. Many people come here to

Only Came here to see the I AMsterday sign, did not really expect to find what i did. the big open lawns was fantatice place to just sit and enjoy the sun (which we had lots of on my visit) the fountain was had a great view of the musuem and again a lovely place to relax by, of course the now iconic IAMsterdam sign was busy but if you take your time it tends to go really busy and then you have a 30 sec window, i climbed it to get my photo done people did tend to be paitent and friendly. we had n

Another must do in Amsterdam: to take a pic with that huge thing. Don't even think it would be all clear and without any other tourists climbing it to take their pictures. Just share the moment. LOL. =)
The open grass areas are wonderful. There are benches for relaxing. The I Am Amsterdam sign is iconic, but a bit crowded for my taste. Worth spenfding some time here.

This is a large open grassy space with benches and flower trees in the sides as well as the large "I amsterdam" (there is a much smaller version in the Amsterdam RAI). The "I amsterdam" letters are huge and some people climb the letters for taking photos. Of course, the earlier one is, the better for photo taking without other people (I visited around 830am). In addition, there are a few small kiosks for drinks and snacks with seating areas. This green square has Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, an
Nice place to spend a lot of time with profit in Amsterdam! All important museums are here. Besides it's quite big and is good even just for strolling))
This is a pretty cool centrally located park. There's a huge I Amsterdam sign where EVERYONE attempts to get a photo. There are also some interesting structures to see, some cool shops for neat souvenirs and some food stands. It's definitely a neat place to stop by and visit while you're in town.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Dam Square)
Every other year I buy a membership because my child and her cousin love to go. When we heard that the Space Shuttle Enterprise was coming to town we were excited even though it never went to space. Long story short, you don't get to go inside the shuttle. There is very little interactive displays. My sister went to see the one in Washington DC, she
went inside and it was free.
The rest of the museum is as fantastic as ever. The family still enjoys it.
