We wend with Passion of Paradise. I think it's part of outer reef, so heaps better than Green island or Fitzory island. so many fishes and coral ... ... and the water was very calm on the day. Very good for snorklling.

“Great environmental experience!”
This sand/coral cay is home to something like 30,000 birds so it is some sight to take in! The water quality there is usually pretty good for diving/snorkelling but if you just want to spend a day on the beach you are probably better off somewhere like Green Island. The smell of bird poo can be strong and due to the importance of this habitat for these birds, you cannot walk all around the cay. Do not let either of these [ut you off this destination for aqautic activities - this is a top spot fo
It is incredible that a 50 minute boat ride from Cairns heading directly out into the ocean could finish with a beautiful Sand Cay with endless bird life. The water is crystal clear and it is great swimming with the playful bat fish
“Ocean Spirit Cruises”
Very good day - Crew well organised and health & safety was a priority. Excellent food from the on board chef. Enjoyed the snorkelling, saw lots of fish but coral was disappointing.
“had a great day on the reef”
booked a tour for a day trip to michaelmas cay through the reception of the motel, loved the day and now have great memories. Thank the staff for a great day, and would love to revisit one day.
Went here on my reef tour with Passions of Paradise :) Great experience! Saw some turtles here as well

“Lovely day out on a catamaran but too many birds!”
Because of thousands of nesting tern birds who fly about and drop their **##** , there was a smell and water clarity was diminished due to the bird droppings . Not the best reef to visit in the Barrier Reef at this destination. The beach was overrun by flying terns and their droppings. There is a roped off area for the birds but of course they are immune to our human ways. Otherwise a lovely day out on a reef catamaran with excellent crew and snorkelling equipment but I would choose another reef
“GREAT DAY OUT ON THE GREAT BARRIER REEF”
Stunning place to go snorkling and watching the birds on the island raising their babies. They were very protective. Beautiful place to be introduced to the GBR
“The view above the water was better than below”
I don't know if it was our tour company or the location but the diving was some of the worst visibility that I've ever experienced. I took along nice camera gear and unfortunately it was a waste of energy. What a disappointment. I must go back and dive another location on the reef!
“snorkelling at its best”
great place to snorkel. clean beaches and a must visit... came via Ocean Spirit Cruises but I believe there are more other cruise liners which come here...
“Surrounded by birds”
This is a fantastic place to feel in the middle of wildlife. We went out on the Seastar and as birders the Captain let us on the Cay whilst they were setting up. The experience was amazing to be just 2 people surrounded by all the Noddy and Black Terns on the Cay. Later we were taken off the Cay for a short ride where we saw Turtles. The crew were extremely sensitive to our needs and did us proud. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to visit the Reef whether just for snorkelling, scuba
“OMG Stepping on white sandy cay with tons of birds around you!”
Can't get better than this. Scuba dive and snorkel near the cay, and then photoshooting on the cay! Thankfully, we are restricted to a small section, so that the rest of the cay is Bird Sactuary - and you see them right in front of you! Fighting, sleeping, protecting the egg and gliding around you, all in front of you, the white sandy cay, and beautiful green water!
“Shocked at coral bleaching”
Had a wonderful trip here with Passions of Paradise which I can't fault but I was shocked to see the bleached coral.
“Nothing but a stinky bird island”
The day we visited this area on a private boat the place was overrun by tourist vessels and being a high tide the tiny patch of the cay that remained was either covered in people or in sea birds and their droppings.. My god the smell!!! The corals were sparse and clouded in by sandy silt.. Visibility for snorkelling was less than 5m. Try the real outer reef from a dive/snorkel boat or visit an outer reef pontoon where visibility is good, coral and fish life considerably more impressive. It was h
“a lot of birds”
There are a LOT of birds on this island, and the snorkellers have a small section of beach where they are in the "firing line" of these birds. It does not smell great either. However, the beach base does make it easy for those without much snorkelling experience though.

Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Queensland, Australia
Every other year I buy a membership because my child and her cousin love to go. When we heard that the Space Shuttle Enterprise was coming to town we were excited even though it never went to space. Long story short, you don't get to go inside the shuttle. There is very little interactive displays. My sister went to see the one in Washington DC, she
went inside and it was free.
The rest of the museum is as fantastic as ever. The family still enjoys it.
