“Stop here to enjoy fresh seafood”
I needed to buy fresh seafood for a celebration meal whilst travelling through to Hobart. Great choices here and also bought delicious food gifts to take home for friends.
“Nice oysters, but very bad tour!”
First of all, this review is not about the experience of the restaurant, this is about the experience I had today at Barilla Bay Oyster farm tour. Lets start with the good comment. I must say, they offer one of the best oysters in Tasmania, we were lucky enough that the oyster we had today was freshly caught in the morning and opened for us before we ate them. They are nice and fresh, salty and fat. It costs $17.50 (hopefully I remember correctly) to have a dozen at the ground floor oyster bar,
Good food, interesting restaurant. Good for a cup of coffee, dining, functions and very friendly staff (most important).
“Wall to wall oysters !”
We were in the mood for oysters, so off to Barilla bay. Great place fantastic views across the bay.
Looked at the extensive menu and settled on the "oyster plater" a range of hot and cold oysters 30 of them !! Wow with a child bottle of Tassie wine it was fantastic . Don't miss out !
“The oysters - OMG!!”
Went to Barilla Bay purely for the oysters. Had their oyster tasting plate - OMG!! 30 oysters between the 2 of us!! All I can say is awesome!! Really gives you a great taste of how you can have oysters - not just natural & kilpatrick. Don't get me wrong love natural & kilpatrick but it great to try in other ways!! The pear & verjuice was fantastic!! Definitely come here again when next in Tassie.
“Oyster Lover's Heaven”
After a delightful week in Hobart, we lunched at Barilla Bay before boarding our flight back to Perth. We both had a dozen oysters each trying three different toppings on each. Picking a favourite was very difficult. With a glass of sparkling Tassie wine and followed by a shared platter of seafood and cold meat, what a delicious way to finish our holiday. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys oysters. Other guests seemed to be enjoying various other seafood meals.
“Shucking Awesome Oysters”
We were picked up by friends from the airport, and taken here for lunch - not far from airport, so w did not have go far. We had a Barilla Bay 'Shucking Awesome' Oyster platter with a Barilla Bay Reisling and some fries. The oysters were superb -6 different flavours I think. A fantastic introduction to Tasmanian cuisine, overlooking the river. Highly recommended, very special.
“Love the Oysters”
I have to admit that the closing of the upstairs restaurantat during winter was a bit of a bummer, we enjoyed the food and the views from there. However, the downstair still has some of the best oysters & marinated octopus (yes in take-away containers) in Hobart.

“Food Cold and expensive”
I hae no problems paying plenty for good food only here I was paying a lot of bad food. My food was cold and boring and the others I went with were equally disapointed
Went for a quick, simple taste of famed oysters while waiting for a plane at nearby Hobart airport.
At 2:00 pm 5 tables occupied, waited 5mins to be seated, 5 minutes for a menu, 10 minutes for an order 1 glass of white wine and 18 oysters to be taken and 30 minutes for the oysters to be plated.
Oysters had been overwashed so little flavour, wine was OK.
Really needs a serious management revision as the food and services badly let down the position and set up.

“Went on a recommendation, but that was bad advice.”
Went their as people had been raving about it. Went in winter, don't know if the winter menu is different to summer, but it was average. Food was ok at best, service was average and prices were high. Wont be going back.
“Good food, great view”
We stopped by Barilla Bay on the way back from Sorell Fruit Farm to Hobart. Food was excellent, with some very interesting vinaigrette used on the salads. Oysters were definitely fresh (although you can of course get them cheaper in more out of the way locations, but having said that, it IS a posh sit down restaurant) and very succulent. View was of course fantastic, looking out over the water. Service was good, staff were friendly. I would classify it as a tad on the pricey side, but still acce
“Gone downhill in recent years”
Barilla Bay has long been a favorite place to stop for delicious fresh oysters at a low price, so the Tasmanian-focused restaurant has always been a logical next step.
The oysters are still terrific, and very reasonably priced from the adjoining shop, but the rest of the cuisine is a bit lacking for the prices.
“Husband's Quest for Oysters”
Stopped here for lunch and husband loved the oysters (natural). I had the salt & pepper calamari with chips & lime aioli. Couldn't fault food. Nice views.
“Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere”
There were eight of us on a girls night out on a Saturday night in mid June 2012 The waitress was so much fun, friendly with a great sense of humour and engaged in our enjoyment of the evening. The service was A1. The food was so good, so well prepared and cooked and just the right amount. The price was just right too.
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
Every other year I buy a membership because my child and her cousin love to go. When we heard that the Space Shuttle Enterprise was coming to town we were excited even though it never went to space. Long story short, you don't get to go inside the shuttle. There is very little interactive displays. My sister went to see the one in Washington DC, she
went inside and it was free.
The rest of the museum is as fantastic as ever. The family still enjoys it.
