Wat Chiang Man
Wat Chiang Man
One of the oldest wats in Chiang Mai. It has a beautiful elephant stupa at the back to the temple so do check that out!
There were just so many temples in Chaing Mai, and we passed many on Thapae rd as we walked to the train station, so we were already pretty overwhelmed before we even walked into one. We set out for the gated city with three temples recommended by staff at our hotel, but ran into a man who has visited Chiang Mai often and he saw our map with the suggestions circled and suggested Wat Chiang Man as well as it was the first temple built in Chiang Mai. The temple itself looks quite humble from the e
“Oldest temple in Chiang Mai”
Wat Chiang Man is the oldest temple in the old city and was built over 800 years ago. The temple is huge with great buddhas inside. In the back there is an old elephant temple/chedi. Another must see temple in the city of Chiang Mai !
“Better temples to see in the city”
Nothing really impressive about this temple. It has history on its side, but that's about it. Wouldn't go out of my way to see it, but if you are in the area, might as well stop in for a couple of pictures and say you have been there. Not as dynamic as other temples in the city and much more low key. Think there were 3 people there in mid-afternoon.

“Refreshing after the busy temples of Bangkok!”
Chiang Mai was only our second destination on our trip through Thailand and after the busy tourist-orientated temples in Bangkok Wat Chiang Man made a refreshing change. The temple is peaceful, beautiful and full of character. Well worth a visit, especially as it is free admission and only a short walk from the center of town. Look out for the amazing Elephant Stupa!
“Another wonderful temple in Chiang Mai”
Another wonderful temple in Chiang Mai with beautiful old chedi with many nice elephants around. Again worth to visit...
“Lovely Wat, worth a visit”
Really beautiful murals, grounds. Often quieter than other Wats in the old city, which allows more better appreciation.
“Elephant Stupa a Highlight”
The coolest thing about Wat Chaing Man is the stup whose base is a cicrcle of epelphants, or at least the front half of elephants. Worth a visit.
Such a lovely temple, with great suroundings. A very pretty place to visit while in Chiang Mai.
“A piece of history!”
Wat Chiang Man is considered to be the oldest temple in Chiangmai. You can find the oldest structure which is a gold-spired chedi with fifteen elephants beneath.

“Fantasic temple very beautiful also opposite is a lovely guesthouse S.K A-ROI fantastic food drink
Fantasic temple very beautiful also opposite is a lovely guesthouse S.K A-ROI fantastic food drink and rooms at so cheap prices go there if you are in chaing mai !!!
“The oldest temple of Chiang Mai”
King Mengrai allegedly lived here while the new city of Chiang Mai was constructed. It is noteworthy for a beautiful chapel and a chedi supported by rows of elephantine buttresses. Enshrined in Wat Chiang Man is a Buddha image in the Man Wichai posture and an old hall of over a hundred years of age called Phra Setang-Kamanee or Phra Kaeo Khao.
“Not all temples are created equal.”
I finally found the Wat Chiang Man temple that is in the old part of the city. After reading about its historical past and I was surprised to see it was not as impressive as so many of the temples in Chiang Mai are as far as design and beauty. The worst for me was the lack of cleanliness of the grounds which where covered in dog do do. I guess that is why there are few tourist at such a significant historical temple, not even many Thai people where there. More interesting if form is the Wat Pa P

Every other year I buy a membership because my child and her cousin love to go. When we heard that the Space Shuttle Enterprise was coming to town we were excited even though it never went to space. Long story short, you don't get to go inside the shuttle. There is very little interactive displays. My sister went to see the one in Washington DC, she
went inside and it was free.
The rest of the museum is as fantastic as ever. The family still enjoys it.
